A much more convenient way to send information on the paid LHV home loan interest to the Tax and Customs Board

23. january 2019

2018 income tax return can be submitted to the Tax and Customs Board (ETCB) from 15 February until 1 April. A natural person can deduct the interest of a loan or leasing taken for the acquisition of a house or apartment from their income. Starting from this year, it is even more convenient to send the information on LHV home loan interest to the ETCB.

When in previous years, the client had to request an interest certificate from their client executive in order to present information on LHV home loan interest, forward it to the ETCB and add it manually to the tax return, starting from this year, the process is much faster and more convenient.

From 7 February, information on the paid interest can be sent to the ETCB from LHV’s internet bank. For this, the client should go to the internet bank menu “Loans and leases” and press the button “Information on loan interest to the ETCB”. This opens the view of loan contracts and paid interests. It is only possible to deduct interest from the income on one loan. Accordingly, a client who has several contracts, must only select one contract for which the information is sent. After pressing the button “Send”, the interest information is immediately visible in the ETCB self-service environment.

Please note that if the home loan was taken together with a co-borrower, the ETCB shall distribute the paid interest between the two persons.

If the borrower is reporting the loan interest for the first time, this information must still be entered manually to the tax return, and in addition, the purchase and loan contracts shall be submitted. These documents cannot be sent via the internet bank.

Similarly to the previous year, the income tax return can be submitted via e-Tax/e-Customs as well as at the ETCB service bureaus. ETCB starts refunding income tax to clients who submitted their tax returns over the internet on 26 February and to clients who submitted their tax returns on paper from 19 March.
