All LHV cards are contactless cards
You can get the contactless card both as a debit card or a credit card.
Purchases up to €25 without entering your PIN
The contactless payment card can be used to make purchases of up to €25 without inserting the card into the payment terminal or entering your PIN. Simply place your card near a payment terminal with a contactless payment sign. Contactless payments are made as one-time payments and only when the card is in the immediate vicinity of the payment terminal.
Faster and more convenient
Contactless technology makes small purchases more convenient and saves the total time spent on making the payment. This means that contactless payments benefit both the card user and the vendor.
Cash may be withdrawn contactlessly.
You can use your LHV contactless card to withdraw cash from LHV’s ATMs contactlessly. For this, place your contactless card in the area marked on the automated machine and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
Pay in Estonia and abroad
Contactless payments can be used anywhere you see the contactless payment sign. You can use your LHV contactless card to pay both in Estonia and abroad. Abroad, a local limit applies to the contactless payment amount.
Configure your card in the Internet Bank or Mobile Bank
Contactless payment limits can be set and, if desired, disabled in the Internet or Mobile Bank.
With the introduction of contactless cards, we will no longer be issuing dual account cards.
We are only offering our customers debit or credit cards with contactless capability.
All of your previous LHV bank cards will remain functional, until their expiry, under the present conditions.
You will be notified in advance of the expiry of the card, after which we will renew it with a card that suits your needs. Of course it is possible to order your first contactless bank card before your current card expires. Contactless cards are available both as debit cards and credit cards.
Even though the dual account cards currently used by LHV have permitted several bank cards to be combined into a single plastic card, this innovation has failed to attain the anticipated level of global success. There have been issues when paying with LHV’s dual account cards abroad and the new contactless payment technology is not compatible with the working principle of the dual account card.
A monthly fee applies to the bank cards with contactless capacity:
- For a private customer, €1 per card.
- For a business customer, €2 per card.
- The price list for the Gold Card will not change. Au-client’s monthly fee is €10.
- Customers up to 26 years of age are able to use LHV’s bank cards without a monthly fee.
All of the currently issued LHV bank cards will remain functional, based on the current price list, until their expiry.
The reason for introducing a monthly fee is that the expense of issuing cards has increased significantly for us, following the entry into force of the pan-European regulation at the end of last year which reduced the amount of revenue generated by card payments. The monthly fee covers some of the added costs. We wish to continue to offer our customers a high quality card service while also further developing our payment solutions. A clear monthly fee on the bank card helps us to do that. The transition to the new price list will be gradual – all of the currently issued LHV bank cards will remain functional, based on the current price list, until their expiry.
Frequently asked questions
A contactless payment is a payment made using a bank card that you only need to wave above a payment terminal, without entering the PIN code. In Estonia, contactless payments can be used for purchases of up to €25. Contactless payments are made using contactless technology (near-field communication, NFC), which has already found wide-spread use around the world.
The bank card can be used like a regular card, but purchases up to €25 can be paid for by simply waving the card. Card terminals supporting contactless payments can be identified by their respective sign. To make a contactless payment, you simply need to wave the card near the terminal and the transaction is concluded. The payment terminal will also display instructions and information about whether the payment was successful. For a purchase over €25, payment with a contactless card has to be made the old way: insert your card into the terminal and enter your PIN.
Estonian banks and vendors will adopt the contactless payment option gradually: compatible payment terminals are being added weekly. They can be identified by the respective sign.
Contactless payments can be made if it has been enabled for the card and the card’s daily and monthly limit is sufficient. There is also a maximum limit set for contactless transactions in the payment terminals. Each country where contactless payments can be used has set their own limit for transactions, which differs by country. In Estonia, it is €25.
This is a limit agreed upon by the banks operating in Estonia.
Yes, all the operations can be carried out like before. The only difference is that the contactless payment option has been added to the card to make paying for smaller purchases faster and more convenient. For all purchases exceeding €25, in Estonia you still need to insert the card into the payment terminal and verify the payment with your PIN code.
Yes, you can also use your LHV contactless card to withdraw cash contact free from LHV’s ATMs. To do so, place your contactless card in the area marked on the automated machine and follow the instructions displayed on the screen. Up to €1000 may be withdrawn in cash in one withdrawal.
Each contactless payment transaction is protected with a unique cryptogram. This ensures that a transaction is concluded only when the vendor has initiated it and the card is in the immediate vicinity of the terminal (up to 2 cm). Contactless payment limits can be set and, if desired, disabled in the Internet or Mobile Bank.
In case of loss or theft, block the card in LHV’s Mobile Bank immediately and contact LHV’s client support to have the card closed. You can also disable the contactless payment capability in the Mobile and Internet Bank or set small limits for both the daily and monthly payments.
Yes, you can. We also advise you to keep the limits as small as possible. All the enabled operations can be disabled and enabled again in the Internet and Mobile Bank.
